flowing sweetly and in full measure.
It flowed gently and was loyal
يسقيgives to drink منof الشهدhoney كاساًa cup
يسقي من الشهد كاساً
يحيىrevives المرنّحthe reeling one رشفاwith sips
يحيى المرنّح رشفا
It offers a cup of honey,
It offers a cup of honey
reviving the reeling one with sips.
Reviving the wilted bloom
فاشربso drink زلالاًclear water هنيئاًwholesome
فاشرب زلالاً هنيئاً
بهin it الهناءُdelight المصفىpurified
به الهناءُ المصفى
So drink clear, wholesome water;
So drink fresh and pleasant
in it lies pure delight.
With it the pure joy
قدalready جاءَcame منfrom فوقabove جسرٍa bridge
قد جاءَ من فوق جسرٍ
سماrose high بناءًin construction ووصفاand in description
سما بناءً ووصفا
It has come over a bridge,
It came over a bridge
lofty in construction and description.
Building and describing the sky
كأنهas though it were حينwhen يجريflows
كأنه حين يجري
منfrom أذنهits ear الماءُthe water وكفاin trickles
من أذنه الماءُ وكفا
It is as though, when there flows
As if when it flows
water in trickles from its ear,
Water flows from its ear and palm
بدرٌa full moon لياليهits nights عشرٌten
بدرٌ لياليه عشرٌ
وقدand already تقرّطadorned itself with earrings شنفاan earring
وقد تقرّط شنفا
it were a full moon ten nights old,
A full moon in its tenth night
adorned with an earring.
Adorned with earrings
أجراهmade it flow خيرbounty بشيرBashir
أجراه خير بشير
قدindeed جادwas generous بالبذلin giving كفّاof hand
قد جاد بالبذل كفّا
Bashir's bounty made it flow;
Brought by the best bringer of good news
he gave generously with his hand,
Who was generous with his giving
يرجوhopes for بذلكthereby أجراًa reward
يرجو بذلك أجراً
منfrom الإلهGod ولطفاand grace
من الإله ولطفا
hoping thereby for reward
Hoping for reward from God
from God, and for grace.
