الحرب إن باشرتها
يوماًone day فدعthen cast aside عنكaway from you الوجلfear
يوماً فدع عنك الوجل
War—if you engage in it
If war comes upon you one day
one day, then cast fear aside.
Cast off from you all fear and fright
وإذاand when تأجّجblazes up نارهاits fire
وإذا تأجّج نارها
فلاthen not يكنlet there be منكfrom you الفشلloss of courage
فلا يكن منك الفشل
And when its fire blazes up,
And if its flames begin to rage
do not let your courage fail.
Do not let failure be your plight
واصبرand endure علىin the face of أهواهاits terrors (apparently intended: أهوالها)
واصبر على أهواها
فالصبرfor patience منهاجthe path الأملhope
فالصبر منهاج الأمل
And endure its terrors,
Endure its passions patiently
for patience is the path to hope.
For patience is hope's guiding light
وألقand face الأعاديthe enemies موقناًbeing certain
وألق الأعادي موقناً
لاno موتdeath إلّاexcept بالأجلat the appointed time
لا موت إلّا بالأجل
And face the enemies, certain
Face your foes with confidence
that death comes only at its appointed time.
Death comes not but at its set time
