قالوا حبيبك محصوبٌ فقلتُ لهم
لاno لاno فقولكمfor your words زورٌfalsehood وبهتانُand slander
لا لا فقولكم زورٌ وبهتانُ
They said, “Your beloved has measles,” so I said to them:
They said your beloved was robbed, so I said to them,
“No, no! Your words are falsehood and slander.
No, no, your words are lies and slander.
وإنماbut rather جسمهُhis body مذsince راقgrew radiant جوهرهُits essence
وإنما جسمهُ مذ راق جوهرهُ
الصافيthe pure فنقطهso its spots بالحسنin beauty مرجانُcoral
الصافي فنقطه بالحسن مرجانُ
Rather, his body, since its pure essence grew radiant,
His body, since his pure essence departed,
Has spots that are coral in their beauty.”
Is but a shell inlaid with pearls of beauty.
