O master, from whose palms I have received blessings,
O master, how generous your gifts of books and paper!
And who has so often favored me with silver and books!
How you have favored me with bounties of writing and reading!

كتاب شرح البديعات ذا طلبي
Your servant has come with hopes, seeking
Your servant comes seeking noble hopes—
The book of commentary on the Badīʿāt—this is my request.
A copy of "Explication of Rhetorical Beauties" is what I desire.

So grant it, I implore, for I have come in want
The gift of some of the learning you have acquired.
Of some share of the learning you possess.

أخذ الجزيل بلا من ولا كرب
For your palm has established customs for us:
Your generosity has set for us an excellent example,
Receiving abundant gifts without reminders of favors or distress.
Taking the abundant without reluctance or distress.
