ياO سيداmaster لاحshone نورlight الفضلexcellence منهfrom him لناfor us
يا سيدا لاح نور الفضل منه لنا
وقرّطand adorned with earrings الاذنthe ear درّاpearls منfrom سنىradiance خبرهhis tidings
وقرّط الاذن درّا من سنى خبره
O master, from whom the light of excellence has shone for us,
O master, the light of his merit shone upon us
and who has adorned the ear with pearls from the radiance of his tidings.
And the ear was adorned with the pearls of his news
كأنماas though هوhe شمسa sun للعلومfor the sciences نرىwe see
كأنما هو شمس للعلوم نرى
منهfrom him الضياءthe radiance ولمand did not نقدرwe were able علىto بصرهseeing him
منه الضياء ولم نقدر على بصره
It is as though he were a sun for the sciences; we see
As if he were a sun of knowledge from which we see
the radiance from him, yet could not gaze upon him.
