Look at the river—how much delight it has revealed to us!

Indeed, joy has flowed like its limpid water.

Its banks resemble the beloved’s temple when

down creeps over his cheeks and parts.

And two trees have taken root on its two banks,

facing each other like a beloved and one who loves.

As though one of them had appeared as a beauty,

and the other were her lover, lamenting to her his burning anguish.
