بعلياهthrough his exalted rank أنthat العزّglory فيat بابهhis gate نشاhas arisen
Lo, O lord Bashir, heralding to the assembly
O Lord Almighty, Herald of Guidance
through his exalted rank that glory has arisen at his gate:
With him, honor is found at his door
فهلthen, is there ليfor me حظٌّa chance انto أكونI be مشرفاhonored
بخدمتكby serving you أمor نستميلwe seek favor لماfor what نشاwe wish
have I, then, a chance to be honored
Do I have the fortune to serve
by serving you, or shall we seek favor for what we wish?
In your service, or do we yearn for what we desire
فإنfor if كانthere is حظّgood fortune كنتI would be عبداa slave وخادماand a servant
وكمand how many منof فتىa youth مثليlike me لفضلكtoward your bounty عشاlooked expectantly
For if good fortune is mine, I would be a slave and a servant;
If this was my fate, I would be your slave and servant
and how many a youth like me has looked to your bounty!
And how many youths like me thrive due to your grace
وإنand if كانthere is سيرdeparture كنتI would be عبداa slave وداعياand one who prays
لعزكمfor your glory عندat الصباحthe morning وفيand in العشاthe evening
And if my lot is departure, I would be a slave and one who prays
And if this was my destiny, I would be your slave and supplicant
for your glory in the morning and in the evening.
For your might at dawn and dusk
