فلا تعذلوا صباً به كأدان يقضي
It is love that, among lovers, enforces what it decrees.
Love in lovers fulfills what it decrees
So do not reproach a lovesick man who [almost] dies of it.
So do not blame a youth seized by love's decrees
ولاand do not تنكرواcensure أهلthe people of الهوىpassion ونحولهمand their emaciation

Nor censure the people of passion and their emaciation,
And do not deny the rights of lovers
for chaste passion gives leave for shaking.
For platonic love permits what it sees

Now softly moaning, now harshly seething
