إذا صدّ الحبيب فلا عتابٌ

إذا صدّ الحبيب فلا عتابٌ

فإن الدهر علمهُ الصدودا

فإن الدهر علمهُ الصدودا

If the beloved turns away, let there be no reproach,

If the beloved turns away, do not blame,

For time has taught him to turn away.

For time has taught him to spurn.

وهذي شيمة الأيام تدعو

وهذي شيمة الأيام تدعو

قريب الحب إن جادت بعيدا

قريب الحب إن جادت بعيدا

And such is the nature of the days: they call

This is the way of days to call

One close in love distant, if they are generous.

A near love far, if they are generous.
