I drove away the herd of slumber for love of him, so it journeyed by night.

Whose dear image fills my soul's inner room.

The phantom of him who, through love, has worn down its innermost being.

All night my eyes stayed open just to see him,

وبات طرفي سهيدا كي يناظره

فاستقصي عن شان كل منهما تره

فاستقصي عن شان كل منهما تره

And my eye spent the night sleepless, to gaze upon him.

So ask them both what meaning can be gleaned,

So examine the condition of each of the two, and you will see it

For eyes will hint at what is meant, what's keen.
