يا بدر علمِ ضاءَ في بدر العلى
شرفاًin honor يقصرfalls short عنof مداهُits extent الواصفُthe describer
شرفاً يقصر عن مداهُ الواصفُ
O full moon of learning, who shone in the full moon of glory,
With honor whose extent no describer can encompass.
هنئتmay you be felicitated ماas long as بسمsmiled الصباحthe morning برتبةٍon a rank
هنئت ما بسم الصباح برتبةٍ
قمريturtledove تهانيهاits congratulations صدوحٌsinging melodiously هاتفُcalling out
قمري تهانيها صدوحٌ هاتفُ
May you be felicitated, as long as morning smiles, on a rank
Whose turtledove of congratulations sings melodiously and calls.
بلغattained المنىaspirations الإسلامIslam فيin عليائهِhis eminence
بلغ المنى الإسلام في عليائهِ
وأتىand came لهُto it ارختI marked the date in verse شيخاًas sheikh عارفُArif
وأتى لهُ ارخت شيخاً عارفُ
Islam attained its aspirations in his exalted station,
And Arif came to it as sheikh—I marked the date in verse.
