للَّه درّ طيور الصيد كم فتكت

تحت العريض وكم حالت بلا مثل

How splendid, by God, are the hunting birds—how often they have slain

beneath al-Arid, and how often they have wheeled without equal!

لو أن هاني رأى وادي السفينة إذ

كرّت اسابرنا فيه على الحجل

كرّت اسابرنا فيه على الحجل

Had Hani seen Wadi al-Safina when

our hawks charged there against the partridges,

شاهدت مقلتاه فوق ما نظرت

شاهدت مقلتاه فوق ما نظرت

في أرض ذيقار من كرّ ومن ميَل

في أرض ذيقار من كرّ ومن ميَل

his two eyes would have witnessed more than they had seen

of charges and turns in the land of Dhi Qar.
