يا ذا الخليل الذي في قوله ثقةٌ

والدر في نظمه الوضاح منتظم

O friend, whose word inspires trust,

And in whose radiant verse pearls are strung,

زرني وكن منصفا حبّا بعهدك لي

إني لوفدك بالمرصاد ملتزم

إني لوفدك بالمرصاد ملتزم

Visit me and, out of love, be fair in keeping your pledge to me;

Indeed, I am steadfastly on the lookout for your arrival.

ها قد أتى لك برذونٌ وعدك لي

ها قد أتى لك برذونٌ وعدك لي

قد حان والشوق عندي شأنه ضرم

قد حان والشوق عندي شأنه ضرم

Behold, a riding horse has come for you; your promise to me

Is now due, and the longing within me is a blazing fire.

فقم وبادر فتحظى في سنا فرحٍ

فقم وبادر فتحظى في سنا فرحٍ

ولثم كفّ أمير زانهُ الكرم

ولثم كفّ أمير زانهُ الكرم

So rise and hasten, to delight in the radiance of joy

And in kissing the hand of an emir whom generosity has adorned.

وحيّ ربعاً بهِ الأفراح سامية

وحيّ ربعاً بهِ الأفراح سامية

وقد تأيد فيهِ للثنا عَلم

وقد تأيد فيهِ للثنا عَلم

And greet a dwelling where joys soar high,

And a banner of praise has been firmly established there.

وصاح في دوحه ورق السرور على

وصاح في دوحه ورق السرور على

غصن الهناء بروضٍ زهره النعم

غصن الهناء بروضٍ زهره النعم

And in its spreading trees the gray doves of joy cooed upon

The bough of bliss, in a garden whose blossoms are blessings.

وأمّ بيتاً لدين المجد منتهضاً

وأمّ بيتاً لدين المجد منتهضاً

في خير مولى شدت في فضله الأمم

في خير مولى شدت في فضله الأمم

And seek a house that rises to uphold glory's creed,

In the finest of lords, whose virtues the nations have sung.

فهو البشيرُ الذي أدنى مآثرهِ

فهو البشيرُ الذي أدنى مآثرهِ

لم يحصها عدداً كلّا ولا قلم

لم يحصها عدداً كلّا ولا قلم

For he is Bashir, whose smallest noble deeds

Have never been numbered—no, not even by a pen.

به تسامى هنا لبنان مرتفعاً

به تسامى هنا لبنان مرتفعاً

وجادهُ هاطل الأنعام والديم

وجادهُ هاطل الأنعام والديم

Here, through him, Lebanon has risen high,

And showers of bounty and steady rain have watered it.

لا زال في السعد والإقبال ما مدحت

لا زال في السعد والإقبال ما مدحت

سواجعٌ ليغني في ثناهُ فمُ

سواجعٌ ليغني في ثناهُ فمُ

May he ever remain in good fortune and prosperity, as long as praise is offered

By cooing doves, so that a mouth may sing his praise.
