O ornament of letters, in

Ibn Turk’s poetry take pride!

بلغ المحامد والثنا

من غر ما استشباه

He attained praises and acclaim

from the choicest likenesses [wording unclear].

وروى نقولا عن سنا

آدب نظم زاهي

And Nicola told of the radiance

of the most refined, resplendent verse.

ولذاك لما فاق في

الأوصاف كل مضاهي

And so, when he surpassed, in

qualities, every rival,

كتب العذار مؤرخا

سطرا لفضل باهي

the down on his cheeks inscribed, as a chronogram,

a line for resplendent merit.
