لكنماbut الكاذبthe liar الجانيthe wrongdoer أشدmore severe ضررharm
Yes, yes, the talebearer is harmful,
Yes, yes, the slanderer does harm
but the lying wrongdoer is more harmful.
But the liar who bears false witness does greater harm

The gossipmonger, if he hears, tells tales; and whoever
The brother of gossip, if he hears something, spreads it
lies says whatever he wishes—words without foundation.
But one who lies says whatever he wants without effect
لذاكfor that reason ليI have حيلةٌa stratagem فيمنagainst whoever ينمُّtells tales وماbut not
ليI have حيلةa stratagem فيagainst كذوبٍa habitual liar ملءthe fullness of فيهhis mouth شررsparks
Thus I have a stratagem against the talebearer, but no
So I have a strategy for dealing with gossip
stratagem have I against a liar whose mouth is full of sparks.
But no strategy against a liar full of evil

I ward off the talebearer’s harm by withholding
I ward off the harm of gossip by
talk from him: no news reaches him.
Withholding news from him, not divulging anything

بماwith what أداويهI cure him إنif للكاذباتfor the falsehoods نشرhe spreads
But one who creates statements out of nothing—
But one who conjures words out of nothing
with what can I cure him if he spreads falsehoods?
What remedy do I have against spreaders of lies
