يا أميراً به الفخار تغالى

Be preeminent in station, honor, and perfection,

You are a pillar of prestige and perfection,

O prince through whom glory has soared

O prince, in whom pride is exalted.

وتباهى فما علاك علاءٌ

وتباهى فما علاك علاءٌ

دمتَ للمجد مورداً وجمالا

دمتَ للمجد مورداً وجمالا

and exulted; no eminence has risen above you.

You boast, yet none can surpass your eminence,

May you remain a wellspring and an ornament of glory.

Long may you remain a spring of glory and beauty.

لك نشرُ الأزهار صبحاً ثناءً

لك نشرُ الأزهار صبحاً ثناءً

وسنا الشهب نسبةً وخلالا

وسنا الشهب نسبةً وخلالا

Your praise is the fragrance of flowers at dawn,

For you, the flowers spread their praise each dawn,

and your lineage and virtues are the radiance of shooting stars.

And the shooting stars trace your lineage and excellence.

كلما فاضت السحائب خلنا

كلما فاضت السحائب خلنا

ذلك الفيض من يديك نوالا

ذلك الفيض من يديك نوالا

Whenever the clouds poured forth, we imagined

Whenever the clouds pour down their rain,

that outpouring to be bounty from your hands.

We see that downpour as a gift from your hands.

أشرق النصر إذ سللت حساماً

أشرق النصر إذ سللت حساماً

في وجوه العدى تريد النزالا

في وجوه العدى تريد النزالا

Victory shone when you drew a sharp sword

Victory shone when you unsheathed a sword,

in the faces of your enemies, seeking combat.

Seeking to thrust into the faces of foes.

يا لكَ اللَه قاسماً وهماماً

يا لكَ اللَه قاسماً وهماماً

وذا رشادٍ غضنفراً ريبالا

وذا رشادٍ غضنفراً ريبالا

God be with you, Qasim, valiant man,

O God, make him a divider and zealous warrior,

possessed of sound judgment, a lion, a mighty lion.

One with guidance, like the brave knight Ribal.

أخذ المجد عن أبٍ وجدود

أخذ المجد عن أبٍ وجدود

وتسامى بالجود عمّا وخالا

وتسامى بالجود عمّا وخالا

He inherited glory from a father and forefathers,

He inherited glory from a generous father

and rose high through his paternal and maternal uncles’ generosity.

And towered in munificence over both kin and stranger.

خير شهم من خير قوم سراةٍ

خير شهم من خير قوم سراةٍ

همُ أسدٌ قد انتجوا الأشبالا

همُ أسدٌ قد انتجوا الأشبالا

The finest noble-hearted man from the finest noble folk—

The best of a noble, valiant people,

they are lions who have begotten lion cubs.

They are lions who have bred cubs.

أنت نجمٌ لهُ السعادة نورٌ

أنت نجمٌ لهُ السعادة نورٌ

ومجيدٌ رأى المحامد مالا

ومجيدٌ رأى المحامد مالا

You are a star whose light is good fortune,

You are a star whose fortune is light,

and an illustrious man who counted praiseworthy deeds as wealth.

Glorious, who saw praise as his fortune.

حسبك الفخر إذ أبوك بشيرُ

حسبك الفخر إذ أبوك بشيرُ

نعم مولىً كسى العلى إجلالا

نعم مولىً كسى العلى إجلالا

It is pride enough for you that your father is Bashir:

Your pride suffices, as your father Bishr

what a fine lord, who clothed eminence in majesty!

Was a gracious lord who clothed the sublime with majesty.

سيد الفضل معدن العدل بدرٌ

سيد الفضل معدن العدل بدرٌ

ضاءَ منه شهاب سعدٍ تعالى

ضاءَ منه شهاب سعدٍ تعالى

Master of excellence, source of justice, a full moon

Chief of bounty, source of justice, a full moon

from whom a shooting star of good fortune shone and rose high.

From which a lucky star's radiance rose high.

فاق معنى وحاتماً بمعانٍ

فاق معنى وحاتماً بمعانٍ

لا ترى في الورى لهنّ مثالا

لا ترى في الورى لهنّ مثالا

He surpassed Maʿn and Hatim in virtues

You surpassed in meaning and generosity even Hatim,

for which you see no equal among humankind.

None can be seen in the world to equal you.

كفه أغنت الفقير بجودٍ

كفه أغنت الفقير بجودٍ

وبحربٍ قد أفنت الأبطالا

وبحربٍ قد أفنت الأبطالا

His hand enriched the poor with generosity

His palm enriched the poor with munificence,

and in war annihilated champions.

And in war he destroyed the warriors.

يا لها راحةً تفيض بحوراً

يا لها راحةً تفيض بحوراً

من يقبلها يبلغ الآمالا

من يقبلها يبلغ الآمالا

Oh, what a palm, pouring forth seas!

Ah, blessed tranquility overflowing with seas,

Whoever kisses it attains his hopes.

He who embraces it attains his hopes.

دمت في عزّةٍ ودمت بنصرٍ

دمت في عزّةٍ ودمت بنصرٍ

وأمانٍ وزدتما إقبالا

وأمانٍ وزدتما إقبالا

May you endure in honor and endure in victory

Long may you remain in might and triumph,

and safety; may you both grow in prosperity.

Safety and ever-increasing success.

وفتاة المديح وافتك عذرا

وفتاة المديح وافتك عذرا

بدعاءٍ من در ثغرٍ تلالا

بدعاءٍ من در ثغرٍ تلالا

And the maiden of praise has come to you a virgin,

And compose poetry in praise and find an excuse

with a prayer from the pearls of a mouth that gleamed.

With a prayer from an eloquent mouth.

قد تحلّت من مدحكم بنعوتٍ

قد تحلّت من مدحكم بنعوتٍ

البستها قراطقاً وحجالا

البستها قراطقاً وحجالا

She has adorned herself with epithets drawn from praising you,

You have adorned yourself with attributes

which clothed her in tunics and bridal canopies.

Worn as necklaces and bracelets.

فاشملنها بالعفو حيث تبدت

فاشملنها بالعفو حيث تبدت

يا كريماً وحيّها استقبالا

يا كريماً وحيّها استقبالا

So enfold her in forgiveness as she appears,

So include it in your pardon, since it appeared;

O generous one, and bid her welcome.

O generous one, receive it welcomingly.

قد حباك الإله سعداً مديداً

قد حباك الإله سعداً مديداً

ما توالى مدى المدى واستطالا

ما توالى مدى المدى واستطالا

God has bestowed enduring good fortune upon you,

God has granted you lasting good fortune

as long as time’s span continues and stretches on.

That continues as long as time endures.
