And one day above Wadi al-Qarn there wheeled
The day our horses galloped over Wadi Qarn
Our hawks, swooping forth to hunt.
Seeking prey, roaming wild and free
فكانso it was علىupon بنيthe sons of حجلانHajlan غمّاsorrow
فكان على بني حجلان غمّا
وللشهبand for the ash-gray ones الكواسرbirds of prey عدَّwas reckoned عيداa feast day
وللشهب الكواسر عدَّ عيدا
It brought sorrow upon the sons of Hajlan,
Was a day of sorrow for Bani Hajlan
And was reckoned a feast day for the ash-gray birds of prey.
But for the valiant knights, a joyous feast
