قد نال حسنا ثم حاز الوقار
How splendid is al-Husayn—he who
By God, how splendid is al-Husayn, who
attained beauty, then gained dignity.
Has attained beauty, then acquired dignity.
لماwhen حوىmastered الآدابthe literary arts قدindeed زانهاadorned them
لما حوى الآداب قد زانها
أرخrecord the date باطلاقwith the letting grow of جميلlovely العذارthe cheek-down
أرخ باطلاق جميل العذار
When he gathered the refinements within himself, he adorned them.
When he mastered the literary arts, he adorned them;
Mark its date with: “The fair-cheeked one’s release.”
Record the date of his lovely cheek-down being allowed to grow.
