When you rose to the foremost office, you began

to sing of your ascent in praises and noble deeds.

to sing; you rose in praiseworthy deeds and noble virtues.

قد قلد الشرف الرفيع مهنداً

ارختهُ بدر الصدارة صارما

ارختهُ بدر الصدارة صارما

The exalted Sacred Law has invested Muhannad;

Exalted honor has indeed girded you with a sword of Indian steel;

I marked its date: “The full moon of eminence—a keen sword.”

I dated it: “The full moon of the chief office—a keen blade.”
