1. لحدٌ به يافعٌ حانت منيتهُ

    قبل الدراية من ضرّا وسراء

    A grave holds a youth whose hour of death had come,

    Before he knew adversity and prosperity.

  2. جنات عدنٍ مع الولدان مبتهجاً

    أضحت لهُ عوضاً عن دار اسواء

    The Gardens of Eden, where he rejoices with the boys,

    Have taken the place, for him, of an abode of woes.

  3. إن غاب الشمس في عينٍ مؤرخةٍ

    أوّه لاحمد نجمٌ غاب بالماء

    If the sun has set in a spring, the chronogram reads:

    Alas for Ahmad! A star has vanished in the water.
