للَهto God (an exclamation of wonder) صبّa lovesick lover غداhas become بالرسمwith the image منشغفاenamored
للَه صبّ غدا بالرسم منشغفا
ولمand has not يرseen الجسمthe body ذاthis منamong أعجبthe strangest العجبwonders
ولم ير الجسم ذا من أعجب العجب
How wondrous a lovesick lover, grown enamored of the image,
God painted morning with design enchanted
Yet he has not seen the body—this is among the strangest wonders.
And saw no form that was of wonders wanting
فهلso, might? لمنfor the one whose زارنيvisited me لألاءradiance جوهرهhis jewel
فهل لمن زارني لألاء جوهره
يزورنيvisit me هوhe himself كيso that اشفىI may be healed منof الوصبsuffering
يزورني هو كي اشفى من الوصب
So might he whose jewel’s radiance has visited me
Shall one who came to see me in my splendour
Visit me himself, so that I may be healed of suffering?
Return, that so my malady be banished?
