عنقود صُدغ الذي أهواه تَيَّمني

فقال لي ريقه لمَّا رأَى وصبي

The cluster of curls at my beloved's temple enthralled me.

The cheek's cluster that I adored has left me bereaved

So his saliva said to me, when it saw my lovesickness:

When its saliva saw me, a youth, it said to me

إن كان في الصدغ عُنْقود فتنت به

إن كان في الصدغ عُنْقود فتنت به

فإن في الخمر معنًى ليس في العِنَبِ

If the temple-lock holds a cluster that has bewitched you,

If the cheek has a cluster that enticed you

then wine holds a quality not found in grapes.
