His speech, or speech about him, pleases me—
His words, or words about him, delight me
The one when he is absent, or the other when he is present.
Whether he is absent or whether he is present
كلاهماboth of them حسنpleasing عنديto me أسرI am delighted بهby it
كلاهما حسن عندي أسر به
لكنbut أحلاهماthe sweeter of the two ماthat which وافقaccompanies النظراseeing
لكن أحلاهما ما وافق النظرا
Both are pleasing to me; I delight in either,
Both please me, I confess
But the sweeter of the two is the one that comes with seeing him.
But the finest is what accords with propriety
