  1. دمشق بواديها رياض نواضر

    بها ينجلي عن قلب ناظرها الهم

    Damascus—its countryside is verdant gardens.

    There, sorrow lifts from the heart of whoever beholds it.

  2. على نفسه فليبك من ضاع عمره

    وليس له فيها نصيب ولا سهم

    Let him weep for himself whose life has been wasted,

    and who has neither portion nor share in it.
