May rain water Damascus’s mosque of worship,
The rainwatered Damascus, satiating her abode,
And a garden where the melodious doves sang.
And thereby rendered lush her meadow, and the warbling doves therein.

When a sanctuary there shines before the eye,
Whenever it shimmers in the eye, the memory of that temple,
A male bird there, sweet to the ear, is surely Maʿbad.
The recollection rings beautifully in the ear, of that temple.
