    Your cheek-down and stature have vindicated my excuse.

    I was smitten with it, and for its sake I tore away my veil.

    O sun of beauty, be there for a lovesick lover

    Who witnesses the battle of Badr in your glances.

    You were created for my misery, sweet in your swaying,

    Kohl-dark in both eyes, slender of waist.

    وَكَيفَ يَعيشُ مَن يَبلى بِهَجرِ

    You hope that I will live, though you are aloof;

    And how can one live who wastes away from abandonment?

    فَها أنا في الصَبابَةِ أُختُ صَخرِ

    And I was steadfast in bearing injustice;

    So here I am in love's longing, the sister of Sakhr.
