    Spring swore by its enchanting figure,

    And by the branches teasing one another,

    أَنفاسُهُ مِسكِيَّةُ الأَردانِ

    And by the beauty of graceful blossoms, when there waft

    Their breaths, with musk-scented sleeves;

    وَردِ الجَنِيِّ وَخُضرَةِ الرَيحانِ

    And by the yellow of its wallflowers and the red of the

    Freshly picked roses, and the green of basil;

    أَصواتُ شادٍ مُطرِبُ الأَلحانِ

    And by the birds' warbling, which we imagine to be

    The sounds of a singer with enchanting melodies;

    And by the rippling of pure water over pebbles

    Like pearls, rubies, and coral:

    I shall surely delight the devotee of revelry and youthful passion

    With the sweetest life and times I have to offer.

    I am the delight of days; my worth is known

    To a joyful man who has acquired the traits of young men.

    The hand of revelry has exacted a pledge from him

    That he shall always keep his sleeves rolled up.

    God is greatest! How sweet to a drinker

    Are springtime and the company of friends!
