أَناI وَالأَحِبَّةand the loved ones مُنجِدٌone heading to Najd وَمُغَوّرُand one heading to the lowlands
فَعَلامَthen why لاnot اَحنوI feel tenderness وَلاand not أَتَذَكَّرُI remember
My loved ones and I—one bound for Najd, the other for the lowlands.
I and my loved ones are ready and prepared
Then why should I not feel tenderness and remember?
So why don't I sigh or remember
لِبُكاءِfor weeping هَذاthis اليَومِday صُنتُI preserved مَدامِعيmy tears
وَكَذاand likewise العَزيزُwhat is precious لِكُلَfor every خَطتٍcalamity (apparently intended: خَطْبٍ) يُدخَرُis stored away
I saved my tears for weeping on this day.
For the tears of this day I guarded my eyes
Thus what is precious is stored away for every calamity.
And so did the dear one for every stored plan
ياO ساكِنيdwellers of واديvalley of العَقيقِal-‘Aqiq فَدَتكُمmay it ransom you

O dwellers of Wadi al-‘Aqiq, may you be ransomed by
O dwellers of Wadi Al-Aqeeq I sacrifice for you
An eye whose tears are red agate.
An eye whose tears are red agate
بِنتُمyou departed فَماso not اِستَعذَبتُI found sweet بَعدَafter حَديثِكُمyour conversation

You departed; after your conversation I found no sweetness
You lived so I haven't yet savored your talk
In any word, nor did any sight please my eye.
A word or a sight that pleased my eye
لَيتَif only اللَياليthe nights بِالحِمىin the protected grounds رَجَعَتreturned لَناto us
وَلَهاand for them مِنَfrom الوَهّابِthe Bestower ماwhatever تَتَخَيَّرُthey choose
If only the nights in the protected grounds would return to us,
I wish the nights would come back to us in Hima
And may they have from the Bestower whatever they choose.
And from the Giver it would choose what it wants
