O swift traveler, I soothe her with talk of Najd,
so that her overwhelming yearning may lessen.

She journeyed by night, never recovering from love and longing,
toward water at Kazimah and laurel trees.

Leave her to her lovesickness there at Sal‘;
then ask about the secret of what she conceals and reveals.

Her backward glances toward Najd are proof
that love dwells in the land of Najd.

بِصَحراءِin the desert of الغُوَيرِal-Ghuwayr وَبَردand the coolness of وردِdrinking water
She yearns for al-Ghuwayr, for its pleasant pasture
in al-Ghuwayr’s desert, and its cool drinking water.

And if her two petitioners sang at Ramah,
she would race like storm winds wherever she was driven by song.

Beware, when you bring her to al-Musalla,
of affliction—“longing’s ransom after me” [wording unclear].
