وَصَلَarrived الكِتابُthe letter كِتابكُمyour letter فَأَخَذَتهُso I took it
وَلصَقتَهُand I pressed it مِنout of حُرقَةٍburning longing بِفُؤاديto my heart
The letter arrived—your letter—and I took it,
And pressed it to my heart out of burning longing.
فَكَأَنَّكُمso it is as though you عِنديwith me نَهاريmy day كُلُّهُall of it
وَإِذاand when رَقَدتُI sleep يَكونُit is تَحتَbeneath وِساديmy pillow
So it is as though you are with me all day long;
And when I sleep, it lies beneath my pillow.
