O peerless in beauty, pity one peerless in anguish.
May you be spared the burning that scorches my liver.

Complaining to you of the lingering ache of care and anguish.

How I am wronged, though you are beauty's prince in the land!

Without my invoking for him the protection of the One, the Eternal Refuge.

From your eyes, and how many lie slain without retribution!

But for you, I would not have spent the night watching the stars, bedded on
Tragacanth thorns, with little patience or endurance.

And strangest of all—a gazelle among Asad's sons!
