بَينَ المُزَرَّدِ وَالمُوَرَّد
أَصبَحتُI have become ذاone possessing قَلبٍa heart مُشَرَّدscattered
أَصبَحتُ ذا قَلبٍ مُشَرَّد
Between the chain-patterned and the rose-red,
Between emerald and coral
I have become a man with a scattered heart.
My heart has become lost
جاوَزتُI have surpassed قَيساًQays فيin الصَباardent love (word continues)
جاوَزتُ قَيساً في الصَبا
بَةِcompletion of 'ardent love' وَالهَوىand passion وَاللَهُand God يَشهَدbears witness
بَةِ وَالهَوى وَاللَهُ يَشهَد
I have surpassed Qays in ardent
I surpassed Qays in passion
love and passion—and God bears witness.
And in love - and God is my witness
وَيلاهُwoe is me! مِنfrom مُقَلٍeyes أبِيI spend the night (word continues)
وَيلاهُ مِن مُقَلٍ أبِي
تُcompletion of 'I spend the night' بِقَتلِهاby their killing أَبَداًforever مُهَدَّدthreatened
تُ بِقَتلِها أَبَداً مُهَدَّد
Alas for those eyes! I spend
Woe to an obstinate lover
the night forever threatened with death by them.
Whose life is perpetually threatened

أَنا صاحِبُ الجَفنِ القَري
