قُلتُI said لِمَحبوبيto my beloved إِذاwhen مَرَّpassed بيby me
قُلتُ لِمَحبوبي إِذا مَرَّ بي
مَحبوبهِhis beloved كَالقمرِlike the moon الساريjourneying by night
مَحبوبهِ كَالقمرِ الساري
I said to my beloved, when there passed by me
I said to my beloved as he passed by
His beloved, like the moon journeying through the night:
My beloved like the rising moon
هَذاthis one الَّذيwho يَأخُذُexacts ليfor me طَرفُهُhis glance
هَذا الَّذي يَأخُذُ لي طَرفُهُ
مِنfrom طَرفِكَyour glance الوَسنانِdrowsy بِالثارِin vengeance
مِن طَرفِكَ الوَسنانِ بِالثارِ
“This is he whose glance exacts for me
The one who has captured my gaze
Vengeance from your drowsy glance.”
From your alluring, tender eyes
