أفنى ابن شمعونٍ جميع الورى
فليتso, if only لوif يعدمناwould pass us by طبهhis medicine
فليت لو يعدمنا طبه
Ibn Shamʿun has annihilated all mankind.
The son of Sham'un has wasted all of mankind
So, if only we were spared his medicine!
If only his lineage would be cut off
لستI do not أطيلprolong الشرحthe explanation فيin وصفهdescribing him
لست أطيل الشرح في وصفه
لوif عالجhe treated الخضرal-Khidr قضىwould meet نحبهhis end
لو عالج الخضر قضى نحبه
I shall not dwell at length on describing him:
I will not prolong this description of him
If he treated al-Khidr, al-Khidr would meet his end.
If al-Khidr had treated him, it would end his demise
