disgrace upon our condition!

سِجنٌimprisonment وَقَيدٌand a fetter لَعَمريby my life
سِجنٌ وَقَيدٌ لَعَمري
هَلdo? لَحوادِثِfor calamities رَينُoverwhelming power
هَل لَحوادِثِ رَينُ
Prison and fetters, by my life!
Prison and chains, by my life
Do calamities hold sway?
Do events ever relent?
السِجنُimprisonment لاno غَيرُother صَعبٌhard
السِجنُ لا غَيرُ صَعبٌ
فَكَيفَso how? سِجنٌimprisonment وَبَينُand separation
فَكَيفَ سِجنٌ وَبَينُ
Prison alone is hard;
Prison is hard indeed
so what of prison and separation?
