لاmay ... not نالَattain قَلبيmy heart مِنكُمُfrom you ماwhat أَمَّلاit hoped for
إِنif كانَwas يَوماًone day عَنaway from مَحَبَّتِكُمlove for you سَلاgrew forgetful
May my heart never attain from you what it hoped for,
My heart gained not what I hoped from you
If ever it forgot its love for you.
If ever it turned from loving you one day
وَحُرمتُand may I be deprived ماwhat أَرجوهُI hope for it مِنof لُقياكُمُmeeting you
إِنif حَلَّsettled قَلبيmy heart فيin سِواكُمُanyone other than you أَوor حَلاfound sweetness
And may I be denied what I hope for in meeting you,
I've been denied what I desire of meeting you
If my heart finds lodging or sweetness in anyone but you.
If it settles on other than you, turned astray

Our beloved ones, return to the days of youth,
My friends, return to the pact of youth
And promise the afflicted lover reunion with you.
Fulfill your promise to reunite, don't delay
وَإِذاand if بَخِلتُمyou were miserly بِالسَلامِwith a greeting فَحَمّلواthen entrust

And if you withhold a greeting, then entrust
And if you're miserly with your greeting
Your fragrance to the east wind and the north wind.
May the east wind blow you and the north wind away
حَمَّلتُمyou burdened العُشّاقَthe lovers أَثقالَthe burdens of الهَوىlove
لَمّاwhen تَبَدّىappeared رَكبُكُمyour caravan مُتَحَمِّلاdeparting
You made lovers bear the burdens of love
You've burdened lovers with love's heavy load
When your caravan appeared, setting out.
When your traveling party packed up and moved away
وَسَفَحتُمُand you spilled دَمَthe blood of أَدمُعيmy tears لَمّاwhen غَداbecame
سَفحُthe lower slope of الغُوَيرِal-Ghuwayr لَكُمfor you بَرغميagainst my will مَنزِلاa dwelling
And you spilled the blood of my tears when
And you shed my bloody tears when you left
The lower slope of al-Ghuwayr became your dwelling, against my will.
Your dwellings spilled them, though I pled you to stay
I fell in love with you طِفلاًas a child فَشَيَّبَand so turned gray لِمَّتيmy locks
طولَthe length of التَجافيestrangement وَالتَجَنُّبand avoidance والقِلاand aversion
I loved you as a child; my locks were grayed by
I clung to you as a child, till my hair turned grey
Long estrangement, avoidance, and aversion.
From long estrangement, aloofness, and betrayal
رقّواhave pity لقَلبon a heart حَليفِallied with وَجدٍpassionate longing ماnever عَصىdisobeyed

أَمرَthe command of الغَرامِlove وَلاand not أَطاعَobeyed العُذَّلاthe reproachers
Have pity on a heart allied with longing, which never disobeyed
Take pity on a heart, ally of passion, that ne'er
Love's command, nor obeyed the reproachers.
Disobeyed love's command, nor flouted its sway
ماذاwhat يُعيدُbrings back لَيالِياًnights قَضَّيتهاI spent them
طيباًin delight وَعصرُand the time of صِباًyouth مَضىpassed فَتَبَدَّلاand then changed
What can bring back nights I spent
What can bring back nights I spent in joy and prime
In delight, when the time of youth has passed and changed?
That have passed, changed, not to return, melted away?
