    And one pregnant with sons of her own, who have stirred

    Within her womb, after they had begotten her.

    على يققٍ أزرارها عقدوها

    On the morning of childbirth they clothed her in a safflower-dyed mantle;

    Over pure white, they fastened her buttons.

    And when they saw that her beauty had become complete,

    And an orb rising from her had waxed full, they envied her.

    So they tore the full moon’s shirt with lightning, and beheld

    Her crescents, after they had lost her.

    And had they been fair, they would not have halved her moon at its fullness,

    Nor destroyed the fair one when they found her.
