أبَاO Abu (father of) بَحرٍBahr سلامُpeace اللهِof God يَترَىcomes in succession
عَلَيكَupon you وَإِنeven though تَكَنَّفَكَsurrounds you الحِجَابُthe veil
O Abu Bahr, God's peace comes unceasingly
O father of the sea, may God's peace be upon you
upon you, though the veil surrounds you.
Even if veils surround you
أحُومُI hover عَلَىaround كَنِّيكَyour shelter وَنَأىand is far away مَحَلٌّan abode
فَسِيَانِso alike are انتِزَاحٌdistance وَاقتِرَابُand nearness
I hover about your shelter, though the abode lies far away;
I yearn for your abode from afar
so distance and nearness are alike.
Being close or distant makes no difference
فَحَسبيso enough for me أنthat أُرَقرِقَI let flow دَمعَthe tears of عَينِيmy eye
وَتُُسعِدنيand help me weep السَّحائِبُthe clouds والصِّحَابُand the companions
It is enough for me to let my eye's tears flow,
It is enough that my eyes shed tears
and the clouds and companions weep with me.
And that clouds and rain bring me joy
