أَشَارَ إلَيكَ بتَسلِيمَةٍ

أَشَارَ إلَيكَ بتَسلِيمَةٍ

وَمِن قَبلُ مَرَّ وَمَا سَلَّمَا

وَمِن قَبلُ مَرَّ وَمَا سَلَّمَا

He gestured to you with a greeting;

He waved to you in greeting

And earlier, he had passed by without greeting.

Yet before he passed without a nod

فَهذِي بِتلكَ وَذَا سُُكَّرُ

فَهذِي بِتلكَ وَذَا سُُكَّرُ

يُحَلِّي بِهِ ذلكَ العَلقَما

يُحَلِّي بِهِ ذلكَ العَلقَما

So this makes up for that, and this is sugar

So this one with that became estranged

With which he sweetens that bitter colocynth.
