وَلَمand did not أَدخُلI enter الحَمّامَthe bathhouse سَاعَةَat the hour of بَينِهِمparting from them
وَلَم أَدخُل الحَمّامَ سَاعَةَ بَينِهِم
طلابَseeking نَعِيمٍpleasure قَدalready رَضِيتُI was content بِيُوسِيwith my misery
طلابَ نَعِيمٍ قَد رَضِيتُ بِيُوسِي
And I did not enter the bathhouse at the hour of parting from them
I did not enter the bathhouse for an hour among them
seeking pleasure—I was content with my misery—
Students of bliss whom I was content with Joseph
وَلكِنbut لِتَجرِيso that it may flow دَمعَتِيmy tear مُطمَئِنَّةًundisturbed
وَلكِن لِتَجرِي دَمعَتِي مُطمَئِنَّةً
فأبكِيso I weep ولاand not يَدرِيknows بِذَاكَof that جَلِيسيmy companion
فأبكِي ولا يَدرِي بِذَاكَ جَلِيسي
but so that my tear might flow undisturbed,
But to let my tears flow reassuringly
and I might weep without my companion knowing of it.
So I weep and my companion does not know that
