فأخلف وأتلف إِنّما المالُ عارةٌ

فأخلف وأتلف إِنّما المالُ عارةٌ

فكلهُ من الدهرِ الذي هو آكِلُه

فكلهُ من الدهرِ الذي هو آكِلُه

So replenish and spend—wealth is only a loan;

I left it all behind, and squandered every dime

so consume it before Time, which will devour it.

For wealth is but a loan from fickle Father Time

فأهونُ مفقودٍ وأيسرُ هالكٍ

فأهونُ مفقودٍ وأيسرُ هالكٍ

على الحيَّ مَن لا يبلغ الحيَّ نائلُه

على الحيَّ مَن لا يبلغ الحيَّ نائلُه

For the least missed of the lost, the least mourned of the dead,

That which is lost is hardly worth a passing sigh

is, to the clan, one whose bounty never reaches the clan.

Compared to one whose dreams will never reach the sky
