إذا ما تريني اليوم مزجىَّ ظعينتي

أصعِّدُ سيراً في البلاد وأُفرع

أصعِّدُ سيراً في البلاد وأُفرع

If you see me today urging my litter-bearing camel onward,

If you see me today deluded and love-sick,

Traveling uphill through the lands and descending,

I wander aimlessly through lands remote,

فإني من قومٍ سواكم وإنما

فإني من قومٍ سواكم وإنما

رجالي فَهمٌ بالحجاز وأشجع

رجالي فَهمٌ بالحجاز وأشجع

For I belong to a people other than you, and only

For I am of a people other than you,

Fahm in the Hijaz and Ashjaʿ are my men.

My men are in Hijaz, resolute and brave.
