رأيتكَ تُقصي من يودُّكَ قلبُه

رأيتكَ تُقصي من يودُّكَ قلبُه

وتُدني الذي يطوي الأذى في الجوانح

وتُدني الذي يطوي الأذى في الجوانح

I saw you push away one whose heart loves you,

I saw you spurn one whose heart adores you

and draw close the one who harbors harm within his breast.

And draw near to one whose heart nurses malice

وقد يستغشّ المرء مَن لا يغشّه

وقد يستغشّ المرء مَن لا يغشّه

ويأمن بالغيب امرأً غير ناصحِ

ويأمن بالغيب امرأً غير ناصحِ

And a man may suspect deceit in one who does not deceive him,

A man may be deceived by one undeceiving

and trust, in his absence, a man who does not wish him well.

And place his trust in an insincere counselor
