Are you in Jarjarāyā, Kafnā ibn Farzan,
Are you Kafna son of Farzan in Jarjaraya,
while Abū ʿUthmān—ʿAmr ibn Nāfiʿ—is here among us?
but among us Abu Uthman, Amr son of Nafi?
وأنبِئتand I was told فيin جُوخارJukhar فلاso do not تتركنَّهleave it
وأنبِئت في جُوخار فلا تتركنَّه
بقيّةa remnant ميراثٍan inheritance لشيخكbelonging to your old man صانعa craftsman
بقيّة ميراثٍ لشيخك صانع
I have been told that in Jūkhār—do not abandon it—
And I was told that in Jukhar—so do not abandon it—
is a remnant of an inheritance from an aged craftsman:

ثلاثةthree أخلاقٍold garments بلينَbecame worn out ومِنجلاًand a sickle
ثلاثة أخلاقٍ بلينَ ومِنجلاً
وأمَّand a mother of جراءٍpups تَتّقىis feared فيin المراقعthe skirmishes (uncertain sense)
وأمَّ جراءٍ تَتّقى في المراقع
three garments worn threadbare, and a sickle,
three old garments, worn out, and a sickle,
and a mother of pups seeking shelter among patched clothes.
and a mother of pups, feared in the skirmishes.
فلهفيso, my lament عليكمfor you آلhouse of كفناKafna بنson of فرزانFarzan
فلهفي عليكم آل كفنا بن فرزان
فكمso how many كانthere were فيكمamong you منof مثيرa plowman وتارعand a gatekeeper (uncertain sense)
فكم كان فيكم من مثير وتارع
Ah, my sorrow for you, house of Kafnā ibn Farzan!
So I grieve for you, house of Kafna son of Farzan!
How many a rouser and one swift to rush forward once were among you!
How many plowmen and gatekeepers there were among you!
