O vile one, son of a vile one, what drove you, unarmored,
The hopes of a hopeless man, none but you can revive,
Against a hero endowed with daring and resolve,
Of a bold and wise hero of great repute,

Repeatedly striking armored men with his sword,
Upon their heads in the hour of terror, never ignoble;
Fearless in the thick of battle.

Against the champion of both armies, the day they met
To the horseman who storms the foe on the day they meet,
At Siffin—a noble chief, the finest scion of chiefs?
With ranks of strong warriors, the best sons of nobility,

You thought, son of a woman with a white-blotched anal rim, that fighting him
You'd think him Barṣā’s gallant son in combat,
Was like your fighting Zayd on the day at Hakim’s house.
As if fighting Zayd at Dar Ḥakīm.
