سَرَيْناwe journeyed by night وَلَمْand did not يُظْهِرْshow لناto us الغيمthe clouds بارقاًa lightning flash
سَرَيْنا وَلَمْ يُظْهِرْ لنا الغيم بارقاً
ولاnor كوكباًa star نُهْدَىwe are guided بِهِby it فَنَسِيرُand so we travel
ولا كوكباً نُهْدَى بِهِ فَنَسِيرُ
We journeyed by night, and the clouds showed us no lightning flash,
We journeyed on, no flash of lightning cleft from the clouds,
Nor a star by which we could be guided and journey on.
No guiding stars to light our path through the dark night.
فقالthen said صحَابيmy companions قَدْindeed هلكناwe have perished فقلتُso I said لاno
فقال صحَابي قَدْ هلكنا فقلتُ لا
هلاكَdoom عليناupon us والدليلُand the guide بصيرُkeen-sighted
هلاكَ علينا والدليلُ بصيرُ
My companions said, “We are doomed!” I said, “No
My friend despaired - “We're lost!” But I said “No!
doom shall befall us, for our guide is keen-sighted.”
While our guide can see, we need not fear the night.”
