نَزِّهوناspare us عنfrom استماعhearing الملامreproach
نَزِّهونا عن استماع الملام
مَاnot لناfor us قَرْعَةٌa share; a lot بغيرin anything other than الغرامِlove
مَا لنا قَرْعَةٌ بغير الغرامِ
Spare us from hearing reproach.
Spare us from hearing blame,
We have no share in anything but love.
We have no luck but love's sweet pain.
لَيْسَthere is no فِيin الوقتthe present time وصلةroom; opportunity لحديثٍfor talk
لَيْسَ فِي الوقت وصلة لحديثٍ
عنabout سوىanything other than رامةRāmah وأهلand the dwellers of الخيامthe tents
عن سوى رامة وأهل الخيام
There is no room now for talk
No time for talk in this brief space
Of anything but Rāmah and the dwellers in the tents.
Save love, and tents, and camping place.
يَاO خليليmy two friends دعاleave be, you two صبّاًa lovesick man قريحاًwounded
يَا خليلي دعا صبّاً قريحاً
لَيْسَis not إسعافhelping مثلهone like him بحرامforbidden
لَيْسَ إسعاف مثله بحرام
O my two friends, leave a wounded lover be.
O friend, he called, bring wine, let joy begin!
Helping one like him is not forbidden.
No solace equals the unlawful sin.
لستI am not أقوىstrong enough عَلَىto النهوضrise بنفسيby myself
لست أقوى عَلَى النهوض بنفسي
لأرىso that I may see برقthe lightning أرضهمtheir land منfrom قيامa standing position
لأرى برق أرضهم من قيام
I am not strong enough to rise by myself
I lack the strength myself to raise
To see the lightning over their land while standing.
And see their land's first morning rays.
