جَمَالُكُمْ لا يُحْصَرْ

ومَثْلُكُمْ لا يُهْجَرْ

ومَثْلُكُمْ لا يُهْجَرْ

Your beauty cannot be encompassed,

and one like you is not forsaken.

وحبكم بَيْنَ الحشا

وحبكم بَيْنَ الحشا

مستودع لا يظهرْ

مستودع لا يظهرْ

And love for you, within my breast,

is stored away, never revealed.

ناري بكم لا تنطفي

ناري بكم لا تنطفي

ولوعتي لا تفترْ

ولوعتي لا تفترْ

My fire for you will not go out,

and my burning anguish never abates.

إذَا أتى الليلُ أتى

إذَا أتى الليلُ أتى

الهمُّ بكم والْفِكَرْ

الهمُّ بكم والْفِكَرْ

When night comes, there come

worry and thoughts of you.

فإن أكنْ وذكركمْ

فإن أكنْ وذكركمْ

طابَ ولذّ السهرْ

طابَ ولذّ السهرْ

But if remembrance of you keeps me company,

the vigil becomes pleasant and sweet.

ولى عذول فيكمو

ولى عذول فيكمو

يقلقني ويكثرْ

يقلقني ويكثرْ

And I have a reproacher on your account,

who troubles me and talks incessantly.

يقول لي تقل من

يقول لي تقل من

ذكرهُمُ وَتُقْصَرْ

ذكرهُمُ وَتُقْصَرْ

He says to me, “Make less

mention of them, and be restrained;

ويحمل الشوق الَّذِي

ويحمل الشوق الَّذِي

حَمَلْتَهُ وَيَصْبِرْ

حَمَلْتَهُ وَيَصْبِرْ

and one bears the longing that

you have borne, and remains patient.”

والله مَا أطيقه

والله مَا أطيقه

وهل أنا إِلاَّ بشرْ

وهل أنا إِلاَّ بشرْ

By God, I cannot bear it—

and am I anything but human?
