أتيتكI came to you والآمالand hopes تسريjourney إِلَىtoward مدىa goal
أتيتك والآمال تسري إِلَى مدى
بعيدfar off أراهI see it باصطناعكthrough your patronage يقربُdraws near
بعيد أراه باصطناعك يقربُ
I came to you, while hopes journeyed toward a goal
Far off, which I see drawing near through your patronage.
وَقَدْand indeed شنعmaliciously claimed الأعداءthe enemies أنَّthat مطالِبيmy requests
وَقَدْ شنع الأعداء أنَّ مطالِبي
ترُدُّare turned back عَلَىon أعقابِهاtheir heels وهيand they are حُبَّبُbubbles
ترُدُّ عَلَى أعقابِها وهي حُبَّبُ
And the enemies have maliciously claimed that my requests
Are turned back on their heels, though they are bubbles.
وَمَاand not تركواthey left مِنْany حُجَّةproof أَوْor أتوْاthey came بِهَاwith it
وَمَا تركوا مِنْ حُجَّة أَوْ أتوْا بِهَا
عَلَىin support of أَنَّنيthat I مَاnot ليfor me بِبَحركin your sea مَشرَبُa place to drink
عَلَى أَنَّني مَا لي بِبَحرك مَشرَبُ
And they left no proof, nor brought any forward,
That I have no place to drink from your sea.
وَواللهand by God لاnot صدَّقتُI believed أنكَthat you تُرْتَجَىare hoped for
وَوالله لا صدَّقتُ أنكَ تُرْتَجَى
لِدَفْعto ward off مُلِمٍّa calamity حَادثnewly arisen فَتُجنَّبُthen you are shunned
لِدَفْع مُلِمٍّ حَادث فَتُجنَّبُ
And by God, I would never believe that you are looked to
To ward off a newly arisen calamity, only to be shunned.
