وأصرتْ عَلَى العناد جحودَا

She denied my claim when I professed my love for her,

She denied me when I claimed her love,

And stubbornly persisted in denial.

And stubbornly insisted on denying it.

قلت إن الدموعَ تشهدُ لي

قلت إن الدموعَ تشهدُ لي

قَالتْ صَحِيح لكن قذفتَ الشهودا

قَالتْ صَحِيح لكن قذفتَ الشهودا

I said, “Indeed, the tears bear witness for me.”

I said tears bear witness for me,

She said, “True, but you have cast out the witnesses.”

She said: True, but you have cast off the witnesses.
